“While the presidential campaigns focus on immigration, inflation, the future of democracy and the gaffes of the week, Wisconsin voters have state and local issues on their minds. In an era where scholars and the news media alike tell us that American politics is nationalized, Wisconsin citizens are reminding their representatives that all politics is local.
Our recent UW-Madison Center for Communication and Civic Renewal survey, conducted by the WisconSays project of the UW Survey Research Center, reveals that Wisconsinites see clear distinctions between what are national problems as compared to critical state and local concerns. In the survey, 1,175 respondents, or 86%, reported that inflation, the economy, crime and taxes are less of a problem in Wisconsin than they are nationally.”
